Cora May Bryan was born May 8, 1873 and at the age of 18 she became concerned about her soul’s salvation; some time after while walking along the public highway the Savior appeared unto her, the fairest among 10,000 and altogether loved, and Cora soon thereafter united with the Methodist Church at Bethel; she lived a worthy and consistent member until her death which took place June 5, 1894. The funeral services being conducted by Rev. Engling (smudged ?) at Bethel, the remains followed by a large concourse of friends to Deer Creek Cemetery where she was laid to rest by the side of her father. She leaves mother, sister and brother, besides a large circle of sorrowing friends. But we sorrow not as those without hope, for the writer heard her often say that she was not afraid to die; in her last hours she called her brother and others to her bedside and cautioned them against the evils of bad company and urged them to live right that they might all meet in Heaven. None knew Cora but to love her always bright and cheerful – her associates are bereaved of a friend this world can never replace; there is a vacancy in society in the church, in the home; that gentle voice is stilled but we are assured by God’s word and her testimony that she inherits a crown of never fading glory… a friend - transcribed by kbz
